About Il Baciarino
Il Baciarino is a small agriturismo located in Maremma, Tuscany, just in the Etruscan village of Vetulonia.
Our cottages sit on eight hectares of oak and baciarino woodland, each with a private sea view and surrounded by wild herbs and silence. At night, the Milky Way stretches overhead. From here, you can walk Roman roads, visit ancient ruins, and feel the rhythm of small-village life.
Meet Your Hosts
Andrea and Chandra live on site and personally welcome every guest.
Andrea was born and raised in nearby Castiglione della Pescaia, in a family of fishermen. While he dreams of returning to sea, today he channels his love for the ocean through his refined seafood cooking, available by request.
Chandra is an artist from Canada who now calls Tuscany home. From her studio here, she creates ceramics, jewellery, books, and handmade pieces available in our shop.
They live alongside Rita, Andrea’s aging mother-in-law and the beloved matriarch of Il Baciarino—and an international team of people who join them through seasonal work exchanges to help keep this way of life possible and share in its daily rhythm.
You’ll also meet a family of animals—chickens, cats, donkeys, bees, fireflies, and the occasional wild boar or deer—who make this hillside feel fully alive.
Our History - It’s a Love Story
In 2001, Andrea and his first wife, Clelia, bought a piece of land on the rugged hillside in Vetulonia. They dreamed of building something simple and authentic—where people could stay close to nature and far from noise and routine. After years of hard work and bureaucratic challenges, they welcomed their first guests to La Quercia in 2012. Over the next five years, they slowly acquired neighboring plots and built four more cottages by hand, creating a small, scattered retreat in the hills.
Clelia passed away unexpectedly in 2017. With the support of family, friends, and guests, Andrea continued to welcome people from all over the world.
In 2019, Andrea met Chandra. Together, they’ve continued sharing Il Baciarino—not as a project to grow, but as a life to be lived and shared.
Through the Years
What Makes Il Baciarino Unique
Il Baciarino is not a traditional luxury hotel.
You won’t find front desk staff, room service, or daily towel changes.
Instead, you’ll experience a different kind of luxury—quiet, space, sea views, and time to reconnect with nature and yourself.
You’ll stay in a handcrafted cottage, surrounded by trees, animals, and silence. You’ll cook outdoors, soak in a wood-fired tub, walk under the stars, and wake up to the sounds of birds and wind through the hillside.
This is not an escape from comfort—it’s a return to what truly matters.
Good to Know Before You Book
Il Baciarino is rustic, peaceful, and built on a hillside. For this reason, it may not be suitable for toddlers, anxious pets, or guests with mobility issues.
We ask for a minimum stay of 3 nights in the low season and 5 nights in July and August. This helps guests settle in, disconnect, and enjoy the natural rhythm of the land.
Cancellation policy: If you cancel at least 2 weeks before arrival, we’ll refund your deposit in full. If something comes up within the two weeks, we’ll do our best to resell the nights—but if we can’t, the full stay will be charged.
Where We Are – Vetulonia, Tuscany
Il Baciarino is located on the edge of Vetulonia, a quiet Etruscan village in southern Tuscany.
You can walk from your cottage to the local bar, Il Ritrovo di Bes, for a morning brioche or an evening aperitivo with locals. The town also has a tabaccheria and alimentari (grocery store) to keep you stocked during your stay.
Vetulonia is one of the most important sites of Etruscan civilization. You can explore its museum, ancient tombs, and archeological ruins, all just a short walk or drive from your cottage.
